Badges are a means of identifying people in busy environments. Displaying a person's name helps to reduce the need for verbal introductions. They are often worn by staff who deal with the public, club members and conference attendees.

For displaying a name, for revealing a role,
To swear an allegiance, to join, to enrol,
To say who you are without being heard,
To say what you do but not speak a word.

The badges supplied by Stamford Engraving are rectangular pieces of engraving laminate with an attachment device on the back. The material is available in a range of colours with a typical thickness of 1½mm. The text is engraved on the surface of the laminate.

The most basic badges display just a person's name. Additional information, such as a company name or a job title, is often included. Sometimes a logo or other artwork is printed alongside the engraving. Full-colour images are possible if required.

There are several different ways a badge can be attached. The most common methods are pins, clips and magnets. Each has an adhesive base which sticks to the back of the badge. All sharp points are shielded when closed.

Clippety captions, clasping contraptions,
Brief introductions to get off your chest,
Plastic descriptions, fastened inscriptions,
Marks of distinction to keep you abreast.
